Sunday Inspiration: Volume 2.30

It is the Language of the World

Sentiment of the week: “It was the pure Language of the World. It required no explanation, just as the universe needs none as it travels through endless time. What the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only woman in his life, and that, with no need for words, she recognized the same thing. He was more certain of it than of anything in the world. He had been told by his parents and grandparents that he must fall in love and really know a person before becoming committed. But maybe people who felt that way had never learned the universal language. Because, when you know that language, it's easy to understand that someone in the world awaits you, whether it's in the middle of the desert or in some great city. And when two such people encounter each other, and their eyes meet, the past and the future become unimportant. There is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only. It is the hand that evokes love, and creates a twin soul for every person in the world. Without such love, one's dreams would have no meaning.” ― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Here’s what is currently inspiring us: The glimmer of a lake during the rise of the sun and the glasslike hue of a lake when the sun sets, early mornings where your subconscious takes over and you freely write, knowing that you can in fact do it, Jenni Kayne interiors, coffee in bed, dinner parties with candles overflowing as the centerpieces, swooning over home decor, the sweetness of a beach bungalow, the urge to redefine your personal style completely, returning to your creations instead of your social media postings, knowing that at any moment you can start over, being addicted to Zillow, buying too many books and then not knowing where to start because you want to read all of them - all at once - at the very same time, sensuality over sexuality when it comes to our clothing, the act of writing poetry.

What we are consuming this week:

Brand of the week: Louis Poulsen is a Danish brand founded in 1874 that designs exceptional lighting - from their famous Panthella to their portable lamps. This luxury lighting brand is architecturally influenced, made to last a lifetime, and culturally iconic. The ultimate gift or collectible goal for the design forward and the design lover. Artist of the week: Instead of highlighting an artist this week, we wanted to highlight one of our favorite photographs ever taken - that of Eve Babitz, nude, playing chess with Marcel Duchamp, taken by Julian Wasser in 1963. The photo that put Eve Babitz, and her wonderful sensual adventures and literary musings, on the map.

Ritual to implement: Pausing to decipher which of your thoughts are ego-based and which of your thoughts are soul-based. Taking inventory of which emotions are led by fear and which emotions are led by alignment. Once identified, soothing the ego and fear based narratives that flood your body so that you can reconnect with the true part of you; the one that loves.

Place to daydream about: Populus in Denver, CO is a neutral aesthetic heaven that also has architectural design, seasonal cuisine, and a deep love for natural built into the DNA of the hotel. With a Gaudi-like structure from the outside to a rooftop bar that overlooks the Denver skyline, Populus is one of those hotels that doesn’t just offer hospitality - it offers an experience. For those that love intentionality when it comes to design, materials, values, and mission, Populus is for you. To book a stay at Populus, click here.

Personal insight of the week: “Humans are storytellers. It is our nature to make up stories, to interpret everything we perceive. Without awareness, we give our personal power to the story and the story writes itself. With awareness, we recover the control of our story. We see we are the authors and if we don't like our story, we change it.” ― Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

What’s on our wishlist: Mercer Bag in Black Lizard by Freja

Home of the week: A Midcentury farm house? Yes, please. Located in Melbourne, this bucolic and colorful property checks off a plethora of boxes as it strikes the perfect balance between idyllic and modern. Rennovated and designed by Studio Manifold and Simone Haag. Photography by Traianos Pakioufakis. Featured in Architectural Digest.

Nostalgic for: Having to wait a week for the next episode.

Questions to ask at the dinner table:

  • If you could own a second home in any city, which city would you choose?

  • How do you define “inner peace,” and when was the last time you felt it?

  • If you could invent something to make life more magical, what would it be?

Question to ask yourself this week: What are your anxieties trying to tell you this week and how are you going to accept, soothe, and heal them?
