Sunday Inspiration: Volume 2.21

Here is a moment of beauty.

Sentiment of the week: “Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita. Did she have a precursor? She did, indeed she did. In point of fact, there might have been no Lolita at all had I not loved, one summer, an initial girl-child. In a princedom by the sea. Oh when? About as many years before Lolita was born as my age was that summer. You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, exhibit number one is what the seraphs, the misinformed, simple, noble-winged seraphs, envied. Look at this tangle of thorns.” Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

Here’s what is currently inspiring us: The easeful feeling when you relax into a slow morning, luxury soap, the promise that when you remove fear and lean into what feels good you get rewarded, afternoon walks by the ocean, waking up to fresh flowers, a novel that engrosses you so deeply you lose yourself within the prose, knowing and understanding that aesthetics have the capacity to move and ignite something beautiful within others, flipping through vintage coffee table books, matcha lattes, drinking water as a self-care practice, booking staycations, touring open houses as a Sunday leisurely activity, listening to music over a podcast in the morning, hand-written notes, reminding yourself that the timing of your life is orchestrated brilliantly no matter how you feel in the current moment, meeting the new you as you crystalize transformation, dressing each day with intention, the joy of getting ready for dinner with girlfriends.

What we are consuming this week:

Brand of the week: Frances de Lourdes is the definition of classic luxury: minimal, quiet, understated. It is for the women who crave the feeling of quality fabrics against their skin; for the women who know that fit above all reigns supreme. How we do one thing is how we do everything. A choice to invest in quality pieces but less is a choice to live a highly curated life. Frances de Lourdes hands us that curated life on a luxury platter. On our wishlist: Frankie White Tee, Aarons Tunic, Astrid Pant.

Artist of the week: “My work is fueled by meditation and the subconscious, using a mixture of repetition and chaos. The technique I use—whether it’s painting, embroidery, or sculpture—is starting with a loose base, then adding intricate and detailed layers on top. Each work has a dichotomy between the spontaneous and the hyper-focused. I use detail to put myself into a meditative state when creating the work, and to create moments that the viewer can linger on. My mission is to document my subconscious and spiritual journey, then share those moments with others. The work is essentially a diary of my soul as I go through life.” - Brianna Lance, Tappan Collective

Ritual to implement: Taking a walk post-lunch walk outside. A stroll. A light movement moment. A reason to break up your day. Away from a screen. A departure from your productivity. A return back to your body.

Place to daydream about: 1 Hotel in Nashville. To book a stay, click here.

Personal insight of the week: “Warning: when feelings become the means of thinking, or if we cannot think greater than how we feel, we can never change. To change is to think greater than how we feel. To change is to act greater than the familiar feelings of the memorized self.” ― Joe Dispenza

Home of the week: We may have found our favorite Midcentury Modern house. One that is drenched in history and architectural glory but also reignited into the modern age. It strikes the perfect balance; serving as an homage and a present day oasis. Updated by Jennie Bishop. Designed by an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. Photography by Heather Talbert. Featured in Architectural Digest.

Nostalgic for: Meeting up with friends at the mall. The mall as the social center of your youth.

Questions to ask at the dinner table:

  • If you could invent something to make life more magical, what would it be?

  • What belief about yourself have you recently outgrown?

  • What does the world need more of and how can you contribute to it?

Question to ask yourself this week: Where am I self-sabotaging the beautiful parts of my life and how can I return to safety and worthiness?

Have a beautiful week. Until next Sunday.

Sincerely,

The REVUE Team
