The Interesting Woman by REVUE

Sentiment of the week: “Max's laugh was like a dragnet; it picked up every living laugh within the vicinity and shined a light on it, intensified it, pitched it higher. It was a dare--he dared you not to laugh with him. He dared you to despair. He dared you to insist that there was no dawn, that all there was was darkness, that there was no silver lining, that the heart didn't grow fonder by absence. He dared you to believe you were going to die--when you at that moment knew, just as he did, that you were immortal, you were among the gods.” ― Eve Babitz, Sex and Rage
Here’s what is currently inspiring us: The anticipation of Met Gala Monday, moments of no structure, no plans, no productivity, no control - only rest and laughter and good company, summer dresses, floor-to-ceiling windows, vintage ball gowns, the hunt of the perfect cowboy boot, lyrics that feel personal, emotional intelligence, dancing alone in your home to music that makes you want to move, organic wine, chandeliers, listing five things you are grateful for everyday, these toning pads, trips to the art museums, at-home pilates sessions, late night chats with girlfriends, buying yourself flowers, speaking to yourself the way you would a loved one, tackling a project or a hobby that is beyond your comfort zone, sunsets and sunrises, a glass of a crisp white wine in the afternoon, these sunglasses, writing poetry on a Saturday afternoon.
What we are consuming this week:
Brand of the week: DYNE is a brand of capsules; accessories that speak both to rich history and futurism. They are contemporary and rich, bold and heroically feminine, cannot be missed and as effortless as everyday. Designed by Sarah Ysabel Narici, a British-Italian designer, every piece of DYNE is created with the aim to reimagine jewelry as a tool of communication. On our wishlist: The Nemes Ear Cuff, Emerald Hexa Earrings, Nemes Diamond Hoops.

Artist of the week: When a woman provokes an emotion - whether that emotion is delight, attraction, disgust, or confusion - she is a force of movement. Cindy Sherman was such an artist; a woman with a point of view that did not settle into adjectives like nice or palatable or pleasant. Instead, her pieces were often provocative, unsettling, and insightful. It doesn’t matter if you like Cindy Sherman’s work or if you detest it. Two things are certain: You will remember it and you will feel something.

Ritual to implement: Reading before bed time as a means of turning off the outer world and melting into a different reality; one that ushers you into sleep, one that ushers you outside of yourself, one that makes you soften.
Place to daydream about: Château de Gudanes is the definition of a 15th century castle in the French countryside. The French architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel was also “the principal architect of King Louis XV at the Palace of Versailles and who worked closely with Queen Marie Antoinette to design and build her personal estate, the Petit Trianon.” Today it has been restored and welcomes guests. Personal insight of the week: “But the problem with readers, the idea we're given of reading is that the model of a reader is the person watching a film, or watching television. So the greatest principle is, "I should sit here and I should be entertained." And the more classical model, which has been completely taken away, is the idea of a reader as an amateur musician. An amateur musician who sits at the piano, has a piece of music, which is the work, made by somebody they don't know, who they probably couldn't comprehend entirely, and they have to use their skills to play this piece of music. The greater the skill, the greater the gift that you give the artist and that the artist gives you. That's the incredibly unfashionable idea of reading. And yet when you practice reading, and you work at a text, it can only give you what you put into it. It's an old moral, but it's completely true.” ― Zadie Smith

Home of the week: This home is crossing multiple aesthetic and historical references - from Italianate-Style to New Orleans Mansion to Parisian Glamour. This eclectic joining of design forces leads us here: a restoration of a 1859 Garden District gem designed by Olivia Erwin Interiors. Photography by Christian Harder. Nostalgic for: Recounting the night before with friends; having that promise of a lazy day that does not demand much.
Questions to ask at the dinner table:
If you could invent something to make life more magical, what would it be?
What symbol, word, or mantra guides you in challenging times?
If fear didn’t exist, what’s the first thing you’d do tomorrow?
Question to ask yourself this week: Where are you seeking validation externally that you can give yourself internally right now?
