Sunday Inspiration: Volume 2.17

The Interesting Woman by REVUE

Sentiment of the week: “Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There's no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine. And you really will have to make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how metaphysical or symbolic it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand razor blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood. You'll catch that blood in your hands, your own blood and the blood of others. And once the storm is over you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about.” ― Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

Here’s what is currently inspiring us: Letting go of rigidity and leaning into spontaneity, the beauty of a dinner with girlfriends, discussing the concept of luxury; what it means, how we relate to it, why it exists, how to live within it, the promise of a good podcast in the morning, long walks by the beach, when self-help books have the prose of a novel, trying out a new style and silhouette, this serum, reading poetry to yourself each morning, falling in love with setting a mood in your home, the art of ambiance, black tie events and wearing ball gowns, starting to dream and plan and embody the perfect summer that is incoming in just a few short months, this dress, wondering where the time went, strolling through open houses on a Sunday, creating rituals for every step of your daily life, moments of complete solitude where you are not consuming, doing, thinking, or planning; pure peace.

What we are consuming this week:

Brand of the week: Today we are going for the ultimate minimalistic capsule wardrobe pieces that have a slight yet powerful structural detail and edge. The SA SU PHI founders describe the brand with brilliant adjectives and descriptive phrases like: the golden ration, aesthetic proclivities, effectiveness, ease and expressiveness, graphic, purist, and architectural shapes, an architectural ethos. A modern feminine wardrobe that is inspired and created through the lens of architectural design and meaningful details. On our wishlist: this jacket, this dress, this skirt.

Artist of the week: Lee Krasner was one of the key figures in the Abstract Expressionist movement, having even introduced and influenced Jackson Pollack’s work as his spouse. While overshadowed by her marriage to Pollack, Krasner’s work stands amongst the greats of her time alongside Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko. An icon to the New York art scene, Lee Krasner’s abstract paintings have the touch that only a woman can possess. For more information on Lee Krasner, click here.

Ritual to implement: Getting a blowout in moments where you want to feel like your most elevated version. A simple treat that shifts your entire energy; the energy of a bombshell, the energy of a romantic, the energy of a intellectual.

Place to daydream about: A classic hotel that has sat on our bucket list for some time now - and will until we indulge ourselves in a visit - Amangiri in Utah. An absolute case study in blending in with nature; a luxury both within physical nature and within the hotel. A blending of human preferences and showing off nature’s best. A respite from it all. To book a stay at Amangiri, click here.

Personal insight of the week: “Through the power of your intentions you can reorganize your energy in an instant. Remember that your intentions create your reality. Power lies in knowing how your positive presence expands your outer life. With this newfound awareness, you can easily see when you’re in alignment with your power and when you’re not. When you’re disconnected, you can recite your prayer and get back into the flow. I witness that I’m out of alignment with my power. I choose to see peace instead of this.” ― Gabrielle Bernstein, The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear to Faith

What’s on our wishlist: Simona Shoulder Bag by Khaite

Reordering this week: Toning Pads by Barefaced

Home of the week: We never thought we would see such a perfect blend of a classic Parisian and rock-n-roll home with Brutalist accents but alas here we are at Lenny Kravitz’s historic home in Paris. The 16th arrondissement home is seeped in history as it is was the grand mansion of Countess Anne d’Ornano, the widowed former mayor of Deauville. It is as much grand as it is spiritual; as much historic as it is creative; as much modern as it is an homage. An explosion and convergence of creative references and sources and personal touches, it is a home we will come back to over and over and over again when we are looking for a specific point of view that ignites the aesthetic wheels. Featured in Architectural Digest here.

Nostalgic for: When we actually watched music videos as a past time. When music videos were a dominant cultural trend amongst the zeitgeist.

Questions to ask at the dinner table:

  • What color, sound, or image describes how you’re feeling today?

  • What do you think your soul is here to learn or teach?

  • What does freedom feel like to you, and how do you create it in your life?

Question to ask yourself this week: Is there room in your life to try something new? If so, how can you set that into motion?
