The Interesting Woman by REVUE

Sentiment of the week: “She alone was left standing, amid the accumulated riches of her mansion, while a host of men lay stricken at her feet. Like those monsters of ancient times whose fearful domains were covered with skeletons, she rested her feet on human skulls and was surrounded by catastrophes...The fly that had come from the dungheap of the slums, carrying the ferment of social decay, had poisoned all these men simply by alighting on them. It was fitting and just. She had avenged the beggars and outcasts of her world. And while, as it were, her sex rose in a halo of glory and blazed down on her prostrate victims like a rising sun shining down on a field of carnage, she remained as unconscious of her actions as a splendid animal, ignorant of the havoc she had wreaked, and as good-natured as ever.” ― Emile Zola , Nana
Here’s what is currently inspiring us: Putting down the sword that is our negative thoughts, long mid-day walks, stepping away from the barrage of social media messaging to find what is internally within - otherwise known as putting blinders on and staying in your own lane, dancing with emotions that change at the drop of a hat, having the audacity to no longer shame yourself for your dreams but rather embody them without apology, the alignment that comes about from a closet audit, twisting the comparison game around to work in your favor - that is, seeing comparison as a moment for expansion and possibility rather than lack and restriction, waking up to fresh flowers, holding your home as sacred space, understanding and knowing that you are one of the lucky ones, this black clutch, turning your limitations into your superpower, breathing into the life that you desire and giving yourself ample time to create it, casting aside impatience for consistency, Lake Como (that’s it), dropping into open houses as a means for inspiration, listening to podcasts that only ignite rather than passively entertain, choosing silence over content fluff, knowing that the fire within you was placed there for a reason and you will be damned if you do nothing to ignite it each and every moment of your awakened life.

Brand of the week: Oude Waag is a Shanghai-based luxury brand that is both deeply design-oriented (from sharp cuts to fluid draping to textile innovation) and deeply human (Creative Director Jingwei Yin describes the brand as “like keeping a diary”). There is movement, there is emotion, and there is deep artistry. A brand that pulls upon our darker sensibilities - the goth and grunge adjacent - and our appreciate for beauty and the finer things in life. For when you adorn yourself with an Oude Waag piece, you become the focal point of the environment. To enter into the world of Oude Waag, click here.

Artist of the week: Noelia Towers; pieces from her exhibit at de boer in Los Angeles titled “An Account of Preceding Events.” When it comes to the pieces of Noelia Towers, there are different motifs, themes, and energies at play that might surprise the casual eye. Tensions of power, historical infrastructure, strength, and authority are the energies playing out if one were to “read between the lines.” In that sense, Towers is a painter and an activist. A challenger and a creative. An artist and a commentator. To follow Noelia Towers work, click here.

Ritual to implement: Before putting on a podcast or watching a YouTube video or engaging with a piece of content on social media, ask yourself: Does this nourish and inspire me or am I engaging in automatic behaviors to fill space and silence? Am I open to receiving inspiration or do I need to live internally in this moment?
Place to daydream about: For those who love connecting with nature and swoon over Brutalist architecture, Hotel Terrestre bridges both worlds: nature and modernity. Located near the Qaxacan coast in Mexico, a trip here is a trip to peace, stillness, and luxury. Architecture by Alberto Kalach. Interior design by RB + K. Personal insight of the week: “Loving the self, to me, begins with never ever criticizing ourselves for anything. Criticism locks us into the very pattern we are trying to change. Understanding and being gentle with ourselves helps us to move out of it. Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” ― Louise L. Hay, You Can Heal Your Life

Home of the week: The home of a Netflix executive tucked away in the Hollywood Hills; a juxtaposition of midcentury, accents of masculinity, and the softness of the landscape. Nostalgic for: Listening to the radio while driving and your favorite song came on. The unexpectedness of the experience. The waiting for the right song. The restraint of getting exactly what you wanted with a press of a button. When radio was the moment.
Questions to ask at the dinner table:
What is one project or idea you've always dreamed of pursuing?
Who is the most creative person you know, and why do they inspire you?
How do you define your authentic self, and how do you express it?
Question to ask yourself this week: In what areas of your life are you still justifying your authentic way of being?
