Sentiment of the week: “April 14, 1964 —- Dear Joseph Heller: A very terrible thing happened to me. I was born a girl. It would be O.K. if I were ugly or something or even startingly unattractive, but as lucky would have it, I’m gorgeous, occasionally. Here’s the thing. I wrote this fabulous book and I’m trying to get it published. So, I show it to people, and they say, “Gee, this is a fabulous book! Let’s hop into bed. I can get it published for you.” And that wouldn’t be so bad either only everyone is so old and ugly and untalented. It always winds up with me running out of an apartment, clutching my manuscript to my over-developed chest, screaming obscenities all the way home on the bus, usually in a wet bathing suit. Oh, Joseph Heller, what do you think I should do? I’m only 20 years old and this has happened 8 times already and pretty soon I’m going to run out of people and agents. I’m poor besides. Sincerely yours, Eve Babitz.” - from Joan & Didion by Lily Anolik
Here’s what is currently inspiring us: Finally and truly being ourselves through the exploration of our uniquely creative voices, walking through architecturally-forward neighborhoods as a meditation, this lip butter, shedding the current year to enter into a new one - whatever emotional process that brings up within, being present with our children’s joys and frustrations, the unwinding and never ending road of taking chances, settling into the collective week off, orchids in full bloom, healing our adrenal fatigue, the quest of finding the perfect, everyday, throw-on pair of jeans, the pursuit of the effortless, orange wine, moving your body little by little each and every day, the power of beginning the day with three deep breathes, the promise of a good purse, knowing that our offline lives are about to get so so good, the loyalty of a dear friend, the ravenous and endless hunger for beauty; for inspiration.
What we are consuming this week:
Podcast: The Him of Skims on Fashion People
Brand of the week: Kelly Wearstler’s furniture line is equally a contained container of refinement and an explosion of creative juxtapositions. While Wearstler has been an interior designer that we have placed on a pedestal, dreaming of an unattainable life scenario in which she revamped our personal spaces, her line allows us access to her point of view that has forever left us jaw-dropped. For it is now possible to enter a Kelly Wearstler space within our own homes; a fact that leaves the creative quite satisfied. Our favorite picks: Bolete Small Table Lamp, Nudo Chair, Maris Bar Cart.

Artist of the week: Danielle Mckinney’s intimate and cinematic portraits draw you into a world of intimacy and vulnerability. Both dreamlike and realistic, Mckinney’s female protagonists may be indulging in a moment of rest and leisure but there is an invisible depth that weighs heavily on each piece. Emotional, radical, and alluring. To follow Danielle Mckinney’s work, click here.

Ritual to implement: Checking in on the depth of your breathing. Are you having rich inhales? Are you having nourishing exhales? Is your nervous system being supported by the quality of your breathes? Make a mental note every few hours. Take a moment to yourself. Breathe deeply and consciously when you would otherwise be on a shallow automatic mode.
Place to daydream about: Janu Tokyo, a new hotel that overlooks Tokyo’s Tower that is both avant-garde and classically luxurious. To book a stay at Janu Tokyo, click here.

Nostalgic for: Typewriters. Even if we never used them, even if we never had one. The thought, the idea, the construct of what a typewriter stood for - and all of the stories that were written on them.
Question to ask yourself this week: How can I go inward for guidance instead of externally seeking wisdom from others?
Have a beautiful week. Until next Sunday.
Sincerely,
The REVUE Team
